Acne is a big issue especially for females as they appear without any prior warning and leave a lot of permanent scars. Irrespective of your dislike for it, acne occurs throughout the teenage years of almost everyone and considerable effort is needed for fighting these bad looking scars and stopping them from recurring.

Acne is an infection caused due to the reaction of bacteria and excessive sebum secretion by the glands in the skin. During the healing process of this infection, a fibrous protein called collagen is formed. On the level of collagen falling low, tiny depressions are created on the skin and on its amount being too high, visible protrusions appear. Acne scars develop in both these situations. Teenagers are normally the worst affected from acne as the hormone levels shoot up during puberty resulting in more sebum secretion.

Some of the typical reasons that lead to an acne infection include intake of medicines, frequent use of oral contraceptives, using beauty products that do not go with the skin type and hereditary reasons. A number of lifestyle aspects including diet that is not nutritious enough and mental stress can also result in acne. But as against what most people believe, researchers have not found any relation between oily food and acne.

Although a number of creams and herbal skin care products are sold in the market to cure acne, it is better to take medical help if the problem aggravates or continues recurring. In order to make sure that acne does not increase, it is better to resist squeezing the lesion or poking it with sharp things.

A growing number of people are also opting for cosmetic treatments to remove acne scars and to regain a skin free of scars and blemishes. Laser based procedures and surgery are also being done increasingly for removing acne scars, in addition to a lot of new treatments that have been discovered by medical science. You should visit a reputed skin doctor who would be able to identify your skin type and suggest a proper treatment.
